SDCI seeks students with a passion for the culinary arts and that come prepared for the work required to succeed in our industry.
So long as you demonstrate that passion and the drive to succeed, we will invest ourselves in making it happen for you, beginning with the enrollment process. It all begins with a visit to our campus.
We’ve designed our enrollment process first, to identify prospective students with that passion, but also to ensure that every prospective student understands what we offer and what it takes to succeed in our industry. For these reasons, your enrollment at SDCI requires some work on your end. We do this to make sure you're a serious applicant who will make SDCI proud both as a student and alumnus. Read below to see what the SDCI enrollment process requires.
We recommend that you do some research on a couple of culinary schools in addition to SDCI.
We want you to be sure you’ve chosen the best school to meet your needs — and any serious student will want to come to this process well informed about his or her options. We’re confident that serious students will choose our program and we want you to come to SDCI confident in your choice.
While you're here, we’ll walk you through each of the following admissions requirements and help you to complete your application.
Some classes at SDCI fill up months in advance. It is never too early to begin the process and there are a number of documents you must gather together.
First, submit an application. That’s how we know you're interested.
You'll need to turn in two letters of recommendation from employers, instructors, or professionals in your industry that can attest to your commitment to a career or education and your willingness to work hard to achieve your goals.
You must have a High School Diploma or the equivalent (such as a GED). This is a regulatory requirement and non-negotiable.
You must pass a standardized exam in math and English. This test demonstrates that your basic competence in these subjects. Any high school graduate should pass this test without too much difficulty.
You must prepare a Statement of Purpose. This essay should describe your passion for the culinary arts and your dedication to the investment of your time and your money in pursuing this career. Tell us about how you have invested already. Tell us ways in which you have sacrificed to achieve things of import to you so that we know that you’ll follow through on your work at SDCI.
After you have turned in all of your documents and gotten through the enrollment process there is one final step to reserving your spot in class. You will have an interview with our Senior Executive Chef and Program Director. This is your last chance to demonstrate to SDCI why we should choose you over other applicants. Showing that you’re passionate, that you’ve made a concrete investment in researching your chosen industry, that you're prepared to do what it takes to succeed, and have followed through on other endeavors in life are great ways to prove that you are prepared for a challenging program such as ours.
